Day 1
The distance from Zadar to Venice is 149 Nm. On your way to Italy, we recommend doing
the custom formalities in Pula. Pula is very well protected from all winds, it will take around
20 minutes of navigation entering the channel of Pula and proceeding to the customs dock.
Vessels over 24 M (over 50GT) must report their intended arrival to the harbor authorities
24 hours in advance and employ the services of an agent to arrange berth, complete
formalities (which include registering with police), and arrange the rubbish to be collected.
On hour before you arrive at the Lido entrance in Venice, you will need to call the pilot station
at VHF 13 and inform them about your estimated time of arrival. When you arrive at the Lido entrance asks the pilot station for permission to enter the channel. Porto San Giorgio is definitely our recommendation for staying overnight if you do not require a depth of more than 2-2,5m and your boat is below 25m. Keep in mind that space is very limited, so reservations are highly recommended. Vaporetto line 2 will bring you to Piazza San Marco in only 5 minutes which is very convenient. The cultural heritage of Venice is more than remarkable and would certainly overload this report, so let us focus on places to eat and drink.
A lazy aperitivo along with some Cichetti is an absolute must, if want you to go for an
authentic place we recommend Bacareto da Lele. Magna Bevi is another top place for
aperitivo, Osteria Alla Frasca is our favorite for eating out and tasting some really Venetian
food. If you want to stay on the fancy side go to the Riva Bar on Gritti terrace for an
aperitivo and dinner at the legendary Do Forni restaurant.
Day 2
From Venice to Grado the distance is 43 Nm. In Grado, You can drop the anchor in canale di
S. Pietro or stay overnight in Porto San Vito. Once inside the harbor or lagoon, you are well
protected. Grado is a charming village with quite some shops and decent infrastructure for
boaters. We recommend visiting Ristorante Agli Artisti for some fresh fish and ristorante
Bella Grado for a good pizza or pasta.
Day 3
The distance from Grado to Trieste is 17 Nm. The port of Trieste offers good shelter from all
winds except Bura which can be very unfriendly. In the case of Bura going to Porto San Rocco in
Muggia for good protection.
Piazza dell´Unita is within walking distance of the port of Trieste and a good starting point for a
walk through town, maybe a good idea to get hydrated with an Aperol Sprizz in Caffe degli
Specchi before start. Alternatively, Bar X is a great place for cool drinks. For good food go to
Lettera Viva or Ristorante Salvagente.
